Welsh Language Standards

The Welsh Language (Wales) Measure 2011 replaced the Welsh Language Act 1993.  As a result we are no longer required to produce a Welsh Language Scheme.  We are instead required to comply with a set of national Welsh Language Standards.

The Welsh Language Commissioner issued the South Wales Police & Crime Commissioner with its compliance notice in relation to the Standards in the summer of 2016.  We are expected to comply with most Standards by 30th March 2017, with some Standards to be introduced by 30th September 2017.

We are supportive of the Standards and the opportunities they present to promote language inclusivity in Wales.

A copy of our compliance notice is available here.

Information on how we will comply with the Standards is available here.

Information on how to make a complaint in relation to our Welsh language service or adherence to the Standards is available here.
